PROGRAMMING DESIGN PHASE
- Meet with client to determine all requirements and specific needs, goals,
and project objectives - Evaluate existing or partially developed floor plans
- Inventory existing furniture, furnishings and equipment for use in the new space
- Research potential building codes, life safety codes which might affect the project
- Coordinate with consultants on the project (if needed)
- Develop a project schedule
This is a programming design phase only to determine the scope of work by the interior designer. Presentation graphics such as renderings of design perspectives, design elevations and design axonometric drawings will not be prepared in this design phase.
Schematic Design Phase
- Initial space planning with spatial adjacencies
- Update programming information as needed
- Develop preliminary furniture plan
- Develop preliminary materials and products specifications
- Prepare preliminary budget
- Present preliminary concept thru quick design sketches and design elevations
(if needed) - Meet with consultants such as architect, contractor, and engineers (if needed)
This is a schematic design phase which the design concept is developed by the interior designer based on the client’s specific needs, goals, and project objectives outlined in the contract.
Development Design Phase
- Refine and complete space plan and furniture plan
- Refine and complete materials and product specifications including finishes
of mill work - Refine and complete the design budget of all existing and remaining costs
- Prepare presentation boards
- Prepare updated presentation graphics, such as renderings of design perspectives, design elevations and design axonometric drawings
In this design phase changes can be made, within reason, by the client to satisfy the client’s specific needs, goals and project objectives outlined in the contract.
